The Knolls
Iowa native, Keith Johnson, principal singer/songwriter, along with lyricist Rick Raver and The Knolls have received extensive praise from the likes of Buddy Miles (Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Wilson Pickett), and Gary Ra'chac, manager of the iconic 60's group "Strawberry Alarm Clock" (Incense and Peppermints), as well as Minnesota Association of Songwriter's President W. Hamilton, who provided a particularly favorable review of Johnson's vocal ability as "unique and engaging". Their first two releases as Keith Johnson and The Grassy Knolls also have been embraced by college and independent radio stations throughout the country, notably charting at #2 on KURA just outside of Denver, CO.
Their rich, textured sound is primarily driven by the acoustic guitar and the classic Wurlitzer. An adept musician, Johnson alternates among lead vocals, acoustic guitar, piano and even takes a seat behind the drums.
The Knoll's sound is a modern-day lament, at once pure of intention and disarmingly cynical, wrestling uneasily with spare sardonic wit.
